So, the great car hunt continues. And honestly hunting in our price range is hard. REALLY hard. We’ve met so many kinds of people and seen so many kinds of cars.
And the process is fine BUT…I’m realizing something. That in my heart, I’m beginning to grumble a little because we don’t make more. To covet here and there because other people seem to be doing way better than us.
I recently heard a pastor that we don’t need to get something out of the Bible every time we read it. I have literally never heard anyone say that. He went on to say that whenever we read, listen to or study the Bible, we are banking it for later.
I like that. Because often I read and don’t get much over the kids talking to me, my own distracted, tired mind, and more. That can get discouraging, but he encouraged me to keep reading. Keep saving up. Keep preparing my heart and mind for what is going to come.
And this week, in the midst of feeling financially full of lack and coveting other people’s stuff, this word came. I hadn’t read it in a long time, but God used it.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Proverbs 4:23 NIV
Now I’m watching my heart. My thoughts. My ideas. I’m recognizing them for what they are. Selfish. Sinful. Simply wrong. I see them clearly because of what I’ve banked. My savings.
And when I see it clearly, when God’s Spirit shows me the truth, then I can be set free to replace those ideas with something new. Right. Good. Holy. Helpful.
Praying that God’s word will surround you, fill you, get banked up in your heart and mind this week so you can manage whatever comes with truth and grace ♥
