I was thinking about this hashtag today. #firstworldproblems.
The problems we aren’t supposed to feel upset about. Because they are too small. Too puny. Too unimportant. Like my new, used car needing some repairs. Or my son getting tested for his food allergies and coming out more allergic than he was before. Or…well, fill in the blank.
#firstworldproblems. When they happen, we feel guilty for being bugged. We are convinced those tiny things shouldn’t get to us. Because we are #blessed.
But maybe we have permission to feel. To be upset. To find those things hard. Because they are hard.
True, it isn’t a #thirdworldproblem. But Jesus said this: “Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
Right here, Jesus made you a promise. He said that trials and sorrows, they will come. To every person on earth. But, he didn’t hashtag them, and he didn’t didn’t define them. He didn’t set a cost on the kinds of things that we are allowed to worry about or find stressful. He didn’t say first world people are exempt.
Whatever is happening today, that thing that tears your heart up, that knocks you off track. It’s hard to deal with. But God knew about it before it even happened.
Those trials and sorrows, they may be #firstworldproblems.
With Jesus, permission is granted. You can feel when #firstworldproblems come. But, when you do, remember this. He, that is, Jesus, our Savior, wants you to take heart.
Praying for great grace and strength as you bear in all God gives you this week ♥
