The other day I got to talk with someone and I asked about their testimony. There’s nothing like a salvation story to refresh your heart.
But that testimony wasn’t just about her. It was about her family. The journey they took while she was a prodigal. Their prayers. Their love. Their interventions and support. Their broken hearts.
And today I ran into her mom and mentioned that I love seeing people love their prodigals. Not that we want prodigals. But, we want love, unconditional, fierce, brave, vulnerable love that persists and holds on and doesn’t give up. And her parents had it.
Her mom said that she never wants to relive those years, but that God was so good. That He changed her heart and filled her with so much more grace and understanding than she had before.
God is for us. Always for us.
“But then I will win her back once again. I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her there.” Hosea 2:14
But we wander. Our hearts want more of Him and more comfort, more stability, more ease. They leave Him for those things.
So He leads us into the desert. And strips us bare. Because His love is fierce. True. Good.
“I will make you my wife forever, showing you righteousness and justice, unfailing love and compassion.” Hosea 2:19
Righteousness, justice, unfailing love and compassion. Things we don’t have, we can’t understand or experience in easy places and comfortable times.
Unexpectedly, these things are found in deep, wild, hard places.
Places where we need Him so much. He takes us there, so we can surrender to Him, so we can let Him make us brave.
Praying for God to make you brave this week as you go deep, as you seek His face and find His unfailing love and compassion.
